Is the Hospital Hill Run Hard?

Is the hospital hill run hard? Not with all the training we have been putting in!  Yesterday we drove the course of the UMKC School of Medicine 5K. The planned route is well designed and begins near Crown Center where we will head North on Grand.

Hospital Hill Run Course

The beginning

The whole trip took about 10 minutes in our car which included stop lights and traffic.  I honestly believe this means we can finish this race well under our projected time of thirty minutes…

Don't worry, there won't be any cars tomorrow!

Don’t worry Jo, after we are done we will go and get a massage and donuts at the Infant Toddler Services of Johnson County tent.  DONUTS!

Get some rest tonight everyone! See you bright and early tomorrow!

Time to Taper our Hospital Hill Run Training

Hey team! All our hard work and training is about to pay off.  We are fewer than three weeks away from the Hospital Hill Run in Kansas City.  As I’m sure you have all been following your training schedules you may notice that the intensity and distance has been cut back as we near the run. From what I have read, this is called the “taper phase“.  It will ensure that we are all in peak physical condition when race day finally arrives.

You have been training so hard for the past few months and this tapering phase may give you an uneasy feeling.  Thoughts of unpreparedness may enter your mind.  you may feel like you should do more or maybe do one more long run.  Well since we’ve all been following our training schedules, you can be sure you are prepared.  By following  the schedule, No more is necessary as you will be in your best shape.  As for that last long run, just don’t do it as it is unnecessary once again thanks to us following our training schedule.

So you may be thinking what to do now. For starters, make sure you are resting on rest days. Rest days will allow your body to rebuild the muscles and recover and are vital in training for long runs. Also, keep switching it up on cross training days.

Above all remember, do not push yourself too hard. We are tapering for race day, and the taper is important.

Another Hospital Hill Runner Joins Us! Projected Finish Times Released

We have just enlisted another “runner” to join our ranks.   The reason the word runner is in quotations is because she is in fact a true runner with experience in these events.  This experience will be valuable when it comes time to participate in the Hospital Hill Run and help us inexperienced runners get through this event.

After crunching all the numbers, a preliminary projected order of finish has been completed.

As you can easily see, Andrea is way ahead of us all.  However she is missing out on the amazing donuts that Jo has so thoughtfully provided for us!

If you are looking for a way to help you may make a donation to support our cause. All donations will go towards the Infant Toddler Services of Johnson County.

Hospital Hill Run Training Begins Today

The 37th Annual Hospital Hill Run in Downtown Kansas City is seven weeks away and there is still plenty of time to get into peak physical condition for the run.

Preparation is one of the most important steps to completing this run. We have been provided a training program that is customizable to each of our individual running levels. The event that we will be participating in is the UMKC School of Medicine 5K. If you are wondering, that is 3.1 miles. The suggested training program will take eight weeks, but since we are all amazing athletes we will do it in seven!

Remember when training, it’s not a sprint it’s a marathon.
